I overheard a student, that was riding home on my bus to another students home say, I wish I could ride this bus every day. My bus is always dirty and has trash all over the floor.
How can a driver expect the students to respect there bus if the driver doesn't?
Every day as I walk back through my bus to check it, I pick up the trash from the seats and floor. I very seldom have any because I have a trash can strapped to the engine cowl in the front and I tell the students at the start of the school year if they bring it on the bus to please take it with them or throw it in the trash can. Most do, but there are aways the exceptions.
Since I pick up any that is not thrown away, for what ever reason, every day the bus stays cleaner and the students take better care of the bus.

Absolutely agree. A dirty bus is a bad reflection on the school. Here's a hint to drivers- apon arrival at school, announce that every student needs to pick up whatever is on the floor beneath their feet and under the seats. Save whatever they miss and show it to a school official. If your'e gently consistant, the students will get the message. Also, this may sound silly, but most new drivers don't know to back down the aisle in order to get the junk out the back door or at least in a pile. This way you can see the stuff under the seats and pull it out.

Every bus in our county's fleet has at least one, if not two or more brooms on board. Most drivers sweep their buses at least once a day(some after every run). Also most drivers hose the inside out at least once a month. As far as the outside, most drivers wash the bus real good once every other month(sometimes more depending on the temperature outside), and we even have a few drivers who go as far as to armor all the tires!

I agree, all drivers should keep their bus clean. If you respect your bus, most students will respect it,and put the trash in the trash can.

Always keep a trash can in the front, and back of the bus or you will find trash on the floor in the back.

Our busses only go on 2 routes a day, so the inside does not need to be swept every day, but I do mine about once a week or more if it needs it, and after field trips. We go down a lot of dusty roads, our supervisor washes them when they need to be washed, twice a month sometimes more if needed.

The thing that bothers me the most is when drivers don't clean the drivers area. It is good to clean the drivers area when you open the door on a dusty road the dust collects everywhere in the front of the bus.

When i see other buses dirty I start thinking i wonder how there house looks. We are required to sweep at lease once a day and if needed twice a day. I hate to see trash bags on the bus, I think that is an invite for the Students trash and always say I am transporting students , not there trash. Believe it or not but i have maybe at the end of the week a few gum wrappers on the high school route. No sodas allowed, I do allow gum on the high school routes only if they dont pop it . Nothing for the Elem.

Well, what do you do if the kids don't keep it clean? I have my bus clean during the day, and by the time I've finished for the day, it looks like I never clean it at all. Trash all over the place!

When i drove a route, if the kids trashed the buses, I explained the principal was coming out and we would watch them clean the bus.
Windows: I expalin, I monitor the temperature outside and I put the windows down. I don't like fingerprints very much,. I also explain that I don't clean the windows so they can make them dirty.
Floors: If they throw anythign on the floor, I will klnow. I check after every route and since I assigned seats, the seat it was under would get questioned. If everyone denied it, I wrote up all the kids knwoing one would squeel on the other.
Seats: explain the cost of seat repairs to the kids, and if ever anything happened, the bill was sent home with the kids. That worked great. My bus was very clean and my kids respected it greatly and I did as well.

Remove all of your personal belongings off of the bus; take down anything above the passenger’s windows and anything that you have hanging in front on the overhead.

Pack some WD-40 for dried gum, Skittles and other sticky candies.
Use some Pine Sol for the overhead, sides and floor.
Holoway House has a nice wax and floor wash that doesn’t strip the wax when it’s time to mop.
MX-7; outside of windows for mineral deposits and drops. Also used with a honey-combed sponge for application. Gloves are required when using this product.
Windex, inside windows.
Color Back; by Turtle Wax (this is optional) if you feel energetic enough for the outside.
Tools: razor knife, putty knife, flat screw drivers and Phillips.
Spray Bottles for tire dressing (commercial grade.)
Plenty of old bath towels from yard sales or old t-shirts.
To remove ballpoint ink, some Aqua Net hairspray works on most inks, and so does Vandalism Remover.
Don’t forget to use ArmorAll or similar products on the steering wheel or on the seats, because it becomes too slippery to drive, and it may make the students slip and slide from their seats.

Weekly Window Wash

Window interiors tend to get a lot of residue. Every week, make sure to give the windows a quick spray down with high-quality vinegar based window cleaner. To finish the job, wipe down with microfiber cloth until thoroughly dry.

When you move to the outside of the bus, give the outside of the bus a good washing, and then proceed with wax. When the bus is out in public, you represent the town and the school, so make sure to always keep your bus clean.

CREST HILL – Traffic was snarled Wednesday morning in Crest Hill when a garbage truck overturned.

The accident happened about 6:30 a.m. near Larkin Avenue and Route 30. "It appears the vehicle that was in front of the garbage truck quickly changed lanes and when the [truck] driver tried to avoid it, the truck became unsteady and overturned," Police Chief Dwayne Wilkerson said. The garbage truck also clipped the back corner of the Toyota FJ Cruiser that came into the lane, Wilkerson said.

The crash occurred about 1:30 p.m. at East 15th Street and Fullerton Avenue  at the intersection of 15th Street and Michael Place in a quiet, residential neighborhood near Newport Harbor High School.NEWPORT BEACH – Authorities are investigating the death of an 8-year-old boy, who was struck by a trash truck Wednesday afternoon in Newport Beach, Newport Beach Police Department Lt. Randy Querry said. The child was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Querry. The lieutenant did not know if the truck was a municipal or private vehicle, but video from the scene showed the large vehicle stopped there was labeled CR&R Environmental Services, which is the name of a Stanton-based waste and recycling company.

4. Troopers identify four killed in crash with garbage truck, Family of four, including two teenagers, killed in devastating crash with garbage truck after the car's driver failed to yield at stop sign 

A family of four people were killed Wednesday afternoon when their car drove into the path of a garbage truck at a Vinton County intersection, the State Highway Patrol said. The four were in a Toyota Corolla that was traveling west on Rt. 56 in northern Vinton County near the Hocking County line. The crash occurred about 1:45 p.m., when the car's driver failed to yield, pulled away from a stop sign at the intersection of Rt. 93 and drove into the path of the truck, which was going south on Rt. 93, the patrol said. The State Highway Patrol's Jackson post said the car was travelling westbound on Route 56 when it drove into the path of the truck near McArthur, around 55 miles from Columbus. The Rumpke Waste and Recycling truck driver, who was later identified as George S Stout, 27, was not injured. The dead were identified its day as Lisa R. Foerster, 55, of Athens, the driver; Lorraine E. Alsterberg, 57, of Oregon; Emma C. Hamel, 19, of Athens; and Thomas J. Hamel, 18, of Athens.

5. Garbage truck crashes into two homes in Edmond

EDMOND, Okla. – A garbage truck is being blamed for damaging two homes on Monday morning.

Shortly before noon, emergency crews were called to the 18300 block of Allora Rd. after receiving reports of a trash truck hitting two homes. It appears that at least two brick mailboxes were destroyed as the truck hopped the curb before careening into two homes. No word on what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, or if anyone was injured in the crash.

Video footage showing a garbage truck flying off an Interstate 95 ramp in Miami and falling nearly 100 feet to the ground was released by the Florida Highway Patrol Monday.

The dashcam video shows driver Kaseem Smith behind the wheel of the truck before it crashes through a guardrail and tumbles to the ground below back on Feb. 15. FHP officials said Smith appeared to be looking to his right when he hit an inside wall twice. He then over corrects and drives off the ramp, officials said. "He basically focused on something else, so he is driving carelessly. He collides twice with the wall and that's when he overreacts," FHP spokesman Joe Sanchez said.

Investigators have determined that the City of Salem trash truck that was hit by a train Tuesday was headed south when it was hit. The truck had just left a business near the crossing. The truck was hit on the passenger side by a Norfolk Southern train that was headed east. Curtis Farris is the City of Salem employee who suffered life-threatening injuries was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

8. Man dies in crash with garbage truck on Highway 290

A man died in a crash Wednesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 290 East at Harris Branch Parkway. The man, identified as Abraham Aguilar-Diaz, 25, ran a red light while driving southbound on Harris Branch Parkway, according to Austin police. He was hit by a city of Austin garbage truck in the eastbound 290 service road at around 3:17 p.m. Aguilar-Diaz was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with CPR in progress, according to Austin-Travis County EMS. Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash.

9. Bicyclist dies after being struck by trash truck in Glen Burnie

Police said any charges are pending review by the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office. Witnesses told police that a Bates Trucking trash truck was northbound in the southbound lane on Central Avenue making a right turn onto Alley 206. Upon making the turn, the trash truck struck the bicyclist, identified as Irene Diane Szczesniak. Anne Arundel County police said the crash occurred in the area of Central Avenue near Oak Lane. A 60-year-old Crofton woman died after being struck by a trash truck while riding her bike Monday morning in Glen Burnie.

MIDDLETON -- Two drivers were taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon when a car crossed over the centerline and collided with an oncoming garbage truck. The crash happened at 2:20 p.m. at the intersection of Purple Sage and Emmett road, northwest of Middleton. Idaho State Police say 86-year-old Betty Walker of Caldwell was headed south on Emmett Road when her car crossed over into the northbound lanes.
